4 stars Amazing!... yes, I think amazing is an excellent word for Yesterday's Children. To take a set of older recordings and make them sound this good, this contemporary, this entertaining -- is truly an amazing accomplishment. The two Beatles covers are nice faithful versions rendered with love, and "I Only Have Eyes For You" is quite lovely, but it's the original compositions which really stand out here, and demonstrate the band's versatility. From a sweet pop song like "Crush" to the spacey science fiction imagery of "Derelict", Yesterday's Children shows this band can do anything! The album's centerpiece, "Mikada Minn's Interpretation of Derek's Story", is the most astounding piece included -- taking a simple, unfinished demo and creating an intricate and fascinating pastiche of thought and sound. As a long-time fan who's had the privilege of hearing the original versions of nearly every song here, I have to say the new "finished" versions are truly wonderful! So... Amazing! Yesterday's Children is another exquisite musical journey by MagellanMusic.
