4 stars Listen to this album! This is some exciting music there is a lot of worlds colliding with The Dirty Projectors. There is a lot female harmonies echoing in stereo with 2 different voices with the lead vocals taking a very soulful yet demented approach to mixing r&b and rock styles. The vocals may take getting use to for some but for me it only took a few listens before I got it. I'm sure a lot of you will be turned off by this band because of their association with the too hip to be cool crowd of some indie rock bands (which I'm guilty of 99% of the time). A friend of mine and fellow prog fan introduced me to this album and my heart warmed up real quick. There are quick little guitar runs through out this album that will certainly remind some of you of a sloppy Steve Howe. The tight rhythm section mixed with bursts of chaotic guitars and beautifully written and performed acoustic songs.Though this is not prog in the sense of long songs and every member being a master of their instrument it is prog in the sense that it is taking things in a forward direction and rather be grandiose with their use of time and key changes they are very subtle and thoughtful. This is a very eclectic album and I highly recommend everyone give it a listen it wont take long for it to hit you I promise.
