REPORTS FROM THE THRESHOLD OF DEATH

Although Junius' take on post-metal is fairly pretty, with subtle layered keys faintly in the background and well-executed clean vocals, overall I found Reports From The Threshold Of Death too monotonous. Not much distinguishes various compositions, and near the end of the album it feels like it's dragged on too long. If they had just played around with the tones and instrumentation instead of doing the exact same thing for each track, maybe I would feel differently.

When I saw Junius live fairly recently, they were much more engaging and appealing to me than this. I'd say, then, that they just struggled a bit to get exactly what they wanted on disk. Still worth a listen, not exactly my kind of thing though.
