Although Battles attained a surprising degree of commercial success with this album - mainly through the song Atlas being used on a whole bunch of soundtracks for things - there's no hint of them diluting their quirky math rock approach on this album. Having tried out a few different approaches on the preceding EPs, Battles have cooked up a catchy sound in which Tyondai Braxton's eccentric vocals are subjected to so many effects they effectively become another instrument in the band's arsenal. With addictive rhythms, manic performances, and intriguing compositions, Battles have produced an album which manages to be accessible without compromising their integrity.
