3 stars One could describe this formation as the Argentine equivalent of Chilean band Los Jaivas because of the progressive blend of folk and rock. Their history starts in january 1970 when during a music festival in Buenos Aires Arco Iris made impression with the legendary composition Blues De Dana. The following years Arco Iris released many beautiful albums. In the early Eighties Arco Iris disbanded for a while when a part of the band moved to California in order to continue their musical carreer over there. In the late Eighties Arco Iris re-started to make albums with a new sound and in 1997 the band got an award from California for their cultural contribution on Californian schools during 20 years.

On this CD-release Arco Iris presents a progressive mix of New Age, symphonic rock and folk. The nine tracks on this album sound beautiful and very pleasant and deliver a lot of variation: percussion (conga, bongo, djembe), flute, saxophone, acoustic guitar and several flutes like the panflute. On the electric front we can enjoy the electric guitar and - bass and keyboards like the synthesizer. Although the music has a bit polished overtones (it's hard to compare with their Seventies sound), I was delighted about the clear recordings and the warm 'symphonic folk' sound. If you love progressive folk, Arco Iris is a fine band to discover.
