3 stars The marvelous trio of Abercrombie, Wall and Nussbaum turn in one of their best with this 1993 release (recorded 1992). The rich sound of Dan Wall's organ sets the tone, led by Abercrombie's distinctive guitar and pushed on by Adam Nussbaum's loose but confident traps. This is jazz but only for fusion lovers, as the fire just under the surface gives way to a rock energy these three aren't afraid to show. The opener 'Rain Forest' is a tasty bit of jazz-rock that highlights John's subtle attack and an eerie melody, though much of the album consists of slow, romantic ruminations between the players with improv over structure. The winner here is 'Mirrors', a swingin' barn-burner that shows-off each member in a hot fusion jam. Prog rock fans won't likely find a lot here to appreciate and even fusionheads may think it dull. To them I say listen to the Timeless album before you dismiss this superb guitar player.
