2 stars Philippe Cauvin, born in Paris in 1952, was known as being the leading force of Jazz/Fusion band Uppsala. At late-70's, when both his bandmates Dany Marcombe and Didier Lamarque were injured in a car accident and Uppsala's project was in serious danger, Cauvin decided to devote himself to a solo career, waiting for his friends to recover.A first solo album by Cauvin never saw the light due to the lack of a distributor but in 1982 he managed to release his actually first official work ''Climage'' on KI Records.

And when we talk about solo efforts, this one definitely belongs to the category. No additional musicians, not even additional instruments. What we have hear is Philippe Cauvin's voice along with his talent in guitars. He proposed an ethereal approach heavily based on acoustic mannerisms and his voice is the only thing that recalls Uppsala.Strange guitar exercises accompanied by his high-pitched frenetic voice, sometimes sounding like an instrument. The music has strong references in Classical Music, New Age and Jazz, but the lack of any supporting instrument make it monotonous and unimaginative. This is more apparent during the instrumental themes, where Cauvin's vocals are absent and the music a bit colorless. The album has been reissued several years later by Musea Records in CD format with five bonus tracks in a similar style.

Unique approach to say the least, but not always conveincing. This is one-dimensional vocal-heavy Guitar Music, which will appeal to fans of the instrument (especially in its acoustic version) but not to a demanding proghead.
