Hampsicora is the name of the heroic Sardo-Punic fighter who led the revolt against the Roman invaders in 215 BCE. While he was busy asking for help from Carthage and the Ilienses tribes, the two Roman legions led by the consul Titus Manlius Torquatus surprised the troops led by Josto, son of Hampsicora, first in the city of Cornus and then near Calaris, where the battle that ended with the death of the young Josto took place. Devastated by the loss of his son, Hampsicora took his own life.

The opening chant is inspired by a war cry, Ellori, Ellori, Elliri, Liri Doy, born in an unknown time and attested by various historical sources. While its meaning is unclear and still a subject of debate among scholars, it was perhaps used on the battlefields and was still present at the time of the Giudicato of Arborea (1420 CE). We imagined it as the cry of the Sardinian troops fighting during the anti-Roman revolts.
In the second part of the song, there is a s''Attitu, a funeral dirge that, in the ancient culture of Sardinia, was usually sung by Mothers who lost their children, or by close relatives or by the ?Attitadòras?, women charged with mourning the deceased. In this song, through our artistic interpretation, we have connected the song to Josto''s Mother grieving the death of her son, a hero fallen in battle. She is also a symbol for all the Mothers and Women of Sardinia who, due to an important loss, wore the ?luttu? and ?mesuluttu? dress until the last day of their life.

The song Hampsicora is included in the album ''Jae'' out October 31, and can be pre-ordered on our Bandcamp.
The single is currently available on Bandcamp.
