5 stars The only crime here is how underappreciated this album is.

From 1974-1979 Supertramp released an almost unmatched string of quality albums with Crime Of The Century sitting confidently at the top as the band's apex of creative ideas and execution. The music within is strikingly dark given how goofy the band can sound at times with the tones chosen in their heavily keyboard laden sound. This keyboard driven sound, ranging from orchestral to disco influence, meets the manic-depressive vocal harmonies of Hodgson's and Davies' disparate voices creating the primary contrast that propels the music.

Much like VDGG, there's very little guitar here, but they manage to rock out despite their lavish orchestral sound due to the sax work of Helliwell and the drumming of Benberg. Although, the melancholy, symphonic moments will greatly outweigh the hard rocking ones. To be blunt, there's no weak song or moment here. This album is a must have to any true prog fan and will surely dispel some preconceptions surrounding their music.
