4 stars A strange debut... too experimental... but quite original.

Mainly dominated by a psychedelic madness, this album explores a lot of moods and styles, being influenced, simultaneously, by a kind of concept à la Sgt. Peppers. Mason is flexing muscles on "Hope I Never Find Me There" and "House for Everyone" with a fresh phychedelia, and in "Utterly Simple" you could say that Harrison's sitar is sounding once more, but is Mason playing nicely this oriental instrument.

Winwood is, like always, an impressive singer, composer and multi-instrumental player; you can see it in tracks like "No Name, No Face, No Number" (beautiful: my favourite), Coloured Rain", "Dealer" (with Capaldi as a lead singer) and "Berkshire Poppies". The self-titled track became an absolute classic into Traffic early works. "Giving To You" is a song in which every member of the bands participate; for this reason, it's so interesting. The opening track is where Traffic bases his style: in the fantastic following album, songs like "Heaven is in your Mind" predominates on the LP... it song represents Traffic at his pure 60' style: fine introduction, superb Winwood's vocals and, in general, a little bit dark.

Nice debut from this incredible band. Four stars.
