4 stars Listening diary 29th January, 2021: Supertramp - Breakfast In America (progressive pop rock, 1979)

It's certainly not my favourite of theirs, but having this drilled into my brain from a very young age gives it an incredibly distinct atmosphere - some of my earliest childlike trains of thought happened with this as the soundtrack. The A-side is obviously where it's at, but songs like the title track or "Goodbye Stranger" come and go with me personally - they're certainly not undeniable tunes and under certain lights can be kind of annoying. This time though, I think I enjoyed the whole album, perhaps I was just in a pop sort of mood. I also noted that this might be one of the only records where Hodgson and Davies are in proper partnership, rather than the very distinctly sliced songwriting and vocal credits on other records. It definitely helps its cause.
