4 stars Deep Purple totally rocks hard. Made in Japan is one of those amazing live records where you can practically see the energy flowing out of the speakers. Better yet, you can feel it. To put it simply, all of the songs showcased here are harder, faster and more powerful than their studio counterparts. The band takes extended solos and jam sessions to really show that they are in charge. Actually, the only place where the jamming isn't totally cool is on "Space Truckin'". The band manages to keep everything very interesting throughout the extended jam, but it gets a little superfluous at the end. Oh well, it was probably better if you were actually there. Anyway, every band member gives a top-notch performance and Gillian pulls off "Child in Time" quite well. This record is a total blast to listen to, so have fun!

Standout tracks: "Highway Star", "Lazy"
