4 stars A truly great debut by the band that invented double lead guitars! I'll do a song by song review for this one.

Blind Eye: One of their biggest hits ever, a very joyful blues-rock song

Lady Whiskey: Lengthy blues-rock song, with an essence of Jimi Hendrix. A lot of jamming, pretty good song overall.

Errors of my Way: Excellent melody, one of their catchiest songs melody-wise. I've sang this live in concert, hugging my friends and waving to the rhythm. I can croon every note of it. Adorable!

Queen of Torture: Pretty unusual riff that's instantly recognizable, but not such a special song as the others.

Handy: Bluesy intro by Martin Turner alone with his bass, the others join him slowly and the guitars start to build the song piece by piece. The first "section" completes at around 3:30, and there in Martin again building the next one. Faster and dramatic, the second section features some great guitar soloing. At around 8:15 the third section starts, with Steve Upton playing solo drums 'till 9:30, and then the whole band enters and they start to sing for the first time, in a groovy blues rocker that completes the song. Pretty special!

Phoenix: Their anthem. Deep Purple have "Child In Time", Wishbone Ash have this one. Epic from the beginning 'till the end, one of the greatest rock songs ever. They also borrowed a 7 seconds guitar part (6:37-6:43) from "Child In Time", in reference to their inspiration. Play it LOUD, drink it in!!!

RATING: a 4,5 stars HANDS DOWN, it pains me that I can't give it a half star. I'm VERY close to 5 stars... I might change it in the future, I don't know. 4 stars for now, with a heavy heart.
