Well, this has got to be Rock's most whacky idea ever - the most absurd and greatest moment in the history of Prog rock. And
how lovely to have this record - before the greatness of Dark Side of the Moon - just to get a truly-goose pimple raising
view in the early lives of Pink Floyd when they were still young and not arguing all the time.Whatever has been done/ added to the DVD, it doesn't actually matter because you can watch the original in its purest form. I would recommend watching that first as it is pure magic. Then watch the new version, which gives a truly fascinating insight into Waters, Gilmour, Wright and Mason just as they wee about to produce their greatest masterpiece. Interesting as that might be, I still prefer the original. The best part - and surely th egreatest single moment in the history of Prog rock - is the vision of Roger Waters beating the hell out that gong!! Wouldn't you just love to take a gong to Pompeii and do the same??? Magical, absurd, peculiar, and the ultimate ultimate self-indulgence - this is the greatest Rock film ever made, without doubt - and no audience. I wonder if the people of Naples could hear it. My only complaint is that it wasn't longer - and I just wish they had done more tracks actually at Pompeii (the ones in the studio are a little bit of a cheat - shame). But there was enough to make this the most absurd masterpiece in Rock music. Tell anyone - the young generation - and they always express surprise and wonderment - it is this that places Pink FLoyd as cool, and kind of shrouded in their mystery which should have ended with the Wall. There is a horrible gap in film-making of Pink Floyd performing in the 70's - why oh why weren't they filmed more??? However, at least we have this - it fills the hole just a little. THE GREATEST PROG ROCK FILM EVER - BUT THE ORIGINAL IS THE BEST Why not just simply stand in the centre of the ampitheatre of Pompeii and air-guitar to your MP3 of Echoes whilst staring at Mount Etna - just make sure nobody's watching, Pink FLoyd made sure of that!
