3 stars This debut album by German one man band Soniq Theater is an interesting, but ultimately frustrating affair.

Inspirations from the more epic side of 70's symphonic rock are obvious on this release, in compositional structures, mood and atmospheres alike; hard hitting rhythms and slightly grandiose soundscapes first and foremost brings ELP to mind when it comes to influence here. The main difference is of course that on this album it's mostly performed on synths and keyboards alone.

How much are made with electronic equipment and how much real instruments have been applied I don't know. But some of the synthwork really ruin atmospheres here - not due to performance but due to sound. Specifically this goes for instruments either emulated or sampled, and for electric guitar sounds in particular.

This is a subjective opinion though, and others may disagree. As the compositions here are mostly on the interesting side in structure, people not bothered by these synthified guitar noises may enjoy this one rather well. An average to good album overall, as I see it.
