3 stars A good debut release, i think, even if it is far away from the glory of their later albums. The sound is raw and aggressive, and it makes the right effect to the listener. There's a lot of anger in this record, in particular for the Maynard's voice skills. Even the songwhriting is pretty good, In the standards of Tool. For me, the hilights of this release are Part of Me and Opiate, including the hidden track the gaping lotus experience, that has a nice psychedelic sound and funny lyrics. In the end, this release is pretty good, a nice start for the band, but it has not a mature sound at all. I would recommend this album only after listening the other Tool's works.
