5 stars I consider this album the pinnacle of Wilson's artistic vision. As many observed, the concept for this album weaves each song into a multi-layered, poignant narrative of alienation, nostalgia, and hauntology. Even when listeners do not delve deep into the details of the concept, however, each song works on its own. Hand. Cannot. Erase. is seemingly, deceptively easy to listen to. Under the surface of "listenable," however, there is an assortment of musical ideas, sound design elements, and visual supplements, all of which become intertwined at a very high level to provide a complete artistic experience. I very often get back to this album and finish listening to it with new findings and a deep feeling of sadness and ironic comfort. Highly recommended to anyone who is interested in diving into the immersive experience of "listening to an album."
