3 stars Another Brick in the Wall by Genesis. Do you think there's some similarity between personalities like Peter Gabriel and Roger Waters?

Everytime I listen to Foxtrot and Selling England by the Pound I turn to this album with great hunger for more amazing Gabriel era.

After many years I'm listening to it hoping to fall in love with it, as it happened similarly with SEbtP. It took some time, yes, but it was worth it. I remember the first song I liked on this album - it was Counting out Time, very catchy song. After diving deeper, I liked The Lamia, Hairless Heart and In the Rapids. Now, after 10 years I find more songs interesting: Lifless packaging, Slippermen, 32 Doors and some more, but...

I find my interest fragmented though, I like a piece of this a bit of that, but I lack the confident and rich paintings by Tony Banks, who IMO holds the space for magic to happen. However, this album is like skimmed milk. It is milk, that's for sure, but all tasty bits are gone or suppressed into lonely islands. When I go for Genesis, I go for a different reason than this album offers. I don't agree with Peter's statement that "prancing around in fairyland was rapidly becoming obsolete." Maybe he was right to push the development from the well-known to new experimenting, but maybe he was pushing and pushing until he tore himself away from the rest of the band. I like what Easy Livin wrote about Peter being the general during creation of the album. Or as Mike Rutherford put it that Peter was becoming too big for the band.

I'm going to give it only 3 points, I think the quality is worth more, but I just don't enjoy this music. Maybe next time...

PS: I feel that The Wall might have been the same situation, similar background band story, but for some, probably personal, reason, this one is not a part of my heart.
