GENESIS LIVE VIDEO

I got this DVD really cheap from my record store, and I was very glad I did. I knew there wasn't very much live documentary of Peter Gabriel-era Genesis, so when I saw this for 9 dollars I had to pick it up. This has an excellent setlist, excellent paying and musicianship, so why am I giving this three stars? The recording quality is not good, to say the least. It's definitely livable, but it could be so much better. You can hear everything fine, you can see everything fine, but even for 1974, this is below the bar. At this time I can think of many classic prog videos with better quality than this.

With that said, it is still listenable, and definitely is worth doing so. It has almost all of their classic masterpieces, and contains some excellent showmanship from Peter Gabriel. I watch this video a lot, but I know the dingy red color and sub-par sound quality will turn many people off. I don't mind recording quality as much as other people here, but even I do have a tough time watching this occasionally.

However, if you are simply looking for great footage of Genesis at their peak, this is for you. There really isn't anywhere else you can find a collection like this, so you better jump on the opportunity and buy this if you're looking for a Genesis Video!

If I could give this 3.5 stars I would, but since that is not an option I must choose between 3 and 4. Four means an excellent addition to ANY prog music collection. I can't say this is excellent for ANY prog fan, but it is great for many, so I'll give it a 3, which is quite good.
