JETHRO TULL's second album was considerably different than the first one. With Martin BARRE taking Mick ABRAHAMS' place in the band, the songs in here took a less jazzy and bluesy sound and went more into an electric Rock one with the unmissable folky acoustic touch that has always characterized the band.

Some songs like "Look into the Sun" and "We used to know" are mainly acoustic pieces; "Bourée" is a piece originally composed by J.S. BACH from his "Suite in E Minor" composed somewhere between 1708 and 1717, JT's version is a rock adaptation mainly leaded by ANDERSON's flute. "A new day yesterday" is a hard blues piece with a repetitive guitar riff and very strong bass and drums lines; "Fat man" and "Jeffrey goes to Leichester Square" are probably the flokiest songs in the album, I hear a lot of this album in later Progressive Rock bands such as COMUS, JAN DUKES DE GREY or THE INCREDIBLE STRING BAND.

With this record JETHRO TULL started to build the classic Folk Rock that would later be the main plate in their albums. This was a transcendental piece of the band's career.

SONG RATING: A new day yesterday, 4 Jeffrey goes to Leicester Square, 4 Bouree, 5 Back to the family, 4 Look into the sun, 4 Nothing is easy, 5 Fat man, 4 We used to know, 5 Reasons for waiting, 4 For a thousand mothers, 4
