Beautiful Scarlet
3 stars An album with some highs and lows, averaging out to a mediocre affair.

The first side of the album is definitely the weaker side with rather atrocious songs like welcome the day and stuck in a hole. Backstage pass is the strongest song on the side, although by no means a masterpiece, just a charming song. These songs are rather short and appear as pallid attempts at falling in line with trends, a recurring theme on Cunning Stunts. Overall this side is below average, 4/10 at best.

The second side is two tracks, The Dabsong Conshirtoe, Caravans second longest song and last over ten minutes. The other song is a minute long ditty. Anyways the Dabsong starts with lovely Hastings vocals that eventually give way to hard rock vocals I don't care for. Now if you do enjoy them then check out For Girls Who? which does an overall better job at updating Caravans sound. Luckily this is not a huge part of the song as fantastic instrumentals carry the song and album to a mighty finish.

Overall, 6/10, better then the truly mediocre albums that follow yet inferior to previous efforts.
