5 stars This disc is a close 2nd to "Hall" and remains on my essential intro list for converts ! Follow the tree back to The Cream then forward to Mountain, or maybe Gong and the RadioActors leading to Steve Hillage... this album always starts a heated debate amongst my mates.

Levitation came out as a great Blue Vinyl pressing ... and saw the studio realisation of the fantastic Live79 approach... alot less funky than The Hawklords offering and yes many HM fans did buy this one! Something to remember is that this was the FIRST album to be totally recorded digitally. Hereafter the vinyl was only for the completists ... ok so CD didn't come until 1982 but hey haven't we always lived in the future? If you're looking for a CD copy it's worth tracking down the double UK rerelease which was packaged with Live79. Assuming you wanted the lacklustre Nuclear Toy and didnt buy the single "Who's Gonna Win The War" at the time then go for the recent excellent reissue.

I disagree with the lack of ideas claim, i put it down to another change of direction, listening to Harvey Bainbridges' later solo work, the influences are easy to spot. Recent fan turned bassist Alan Davey led a return to the Lemmy days for those that kept missing the gigs but in their own words .... "Onward Flies The Bird" and i for one will always be happy to follow.
