THE EARTH IS NOT A COLD DEAD PLACE

This was my first experience with EITS, and it was a pleasant one. They focus on making long, emotionally charged instrumentals built of layered guitars and drums. Like many great bands, the emotion felt when listening to this is present but ambiguous- exactly what the listener feels is up to him or her, but there's no doubt they will feel it. They are similar to GY!BE, except their music is less depressed and apocalyptic, instead being tender and loving. The only problem is that, like Mogwai, they aren't very diverse, and all the songs essentially run on the same basic formula. It's on the border between three stars and four, but I think I'll go four because they're pretty much essential to anyone looking to know what post-rock is all about.
