5 stars Critics often accuse prog rock of being too focused on playing and not focused enough on melodies, but whoever says that has obviously never heard "Leftoverture." Some of the melodies you hear on this record are the best you will hear on any record, regardless of genre.

"Leftoverture" is the symbol of a band at the height of their creativity. They hadn't done anything close to as good as this before, and have never came close to topping it since. That is not to disparage everything else, as Kansas has a lot of other good CDs, and I am a big fan of many of them, but "Leftoverture" is so magnificent, it is tough for most bands to equal or top it, much less themselves. "Carry On Wayward Son" is the timeless classic that everyone knows, but gems like "Cheyenne Anthem," "Magnum Opus" and "Miracles Out of Nowhere" are songs that, if you are anything like me, will have your jaw on the floor for days after you hear them for the first time. I still remember hearing this album for the first time around 15 years ago; I couldn't believe music could be this good.

This is not just a masterpiece of progressive rock music...this is a masterpiece of MUSIC.
