5 stars The perfect fusion of Prog, Pop, Jazz, and Canterbury.

I only discovered Camel 3 years ago. The first Camel album I listened to was Mirage. I was an instant fan. For the next year, I enjoyed their first 4 albums. I was hesitant to listen to anything they recorded after Moondances because of the lackluster reviews. Raindances was a dissapointing album, probably the worst Camel album in my opinion. So I expected to be dissapointed when I first listened to Breathless. Boy was I wrong. I was blown away. It instantly became my favorite Camel album, and one my favorite albums by any band. There is absolutely no filler on this album. Can you really say this about any other Camel album? It makes me wonder if a lot of the reviewers who rate this album as one or two stars have even listened to the album. And I'm even more suprised to see the dull Raindances has a higher rating than this album. One reviewer states "An Odd Breath of Pop, Jazz, Prog and Canterbury.." In my opinioin, this is "A Perfect Breath of Pop, Jazz, Prog and Canterbury." By far the most original and most listenable of all Camel albums.

The standout tracks on this album are Echoes and Summer Lightning. Latimer's guitar playing really stands out on both of these tracks. Breathless, On a Wing and a Prayer, and The Sleeper are all excellent tracks as well. The rest of the tracks are far from filler though. Down on the Farm is comedic and catchy, You Make Me Smile is also upbeat and catchy. Rainbow's End is a nice short closing number, to a perfect album. The next album, I Can See Your House From Here is excellent as well. Not as good as Breathless, but definitely worthy of 4 stars.
