3 stars Unknown Realities is the 10th effort from German composer and keyboardist Alfred Mueller, who started issuing his material using the artist moniker Soniq Theater back in 1999.

In this case as in most others by him, it's the strength of his compositions which is the saving grace of this venture. He is a more than able composer, crafting together nicely flowing themes with ease and knows how to evolve the creation be it a dramatic symphonic inspired venture or a more mellow, cinematic affair. Of which his latest few albums have had their fair share of, to a much greater extent than the earliest part of his discography.

The other side of the medal is the fact that these tracks are performed on keyboards first and foremost, with most of not all instruments either sampled or emulated in some form. On some tracks this works very well, Call of the Unknown a good example on this production, while other tracks makes an impact first and foremost due to what these compositions might have sounded if performed by decent instrumentalists supplementing Mueller's tangents.

Overall a nice effort once again, featuring strong compositions blending light symphonic progressive rock with mellower cinematic passages, and also a few tunes with a nod or two in the direction of jazzrock this time around. Strong compositions all around, where the limited instrumentation will be the breaking point for just how enjoyable one will find this production.
