3 stars One early Saturday morning........

I was bored so I went to the local £ 1 store (Poundland) and browsed through the book section. I also had a look at the DVDs and found a Pink Floyd title and tens of this DVD. "Contains a Book" it says. Indeed it does. Both DVDs are probably substandard bootlegs, I also thought. I came home and found both of them for sale at Amazon and endorsed by both Deep Purple and Pink Floyd. Great !!!

I was still full of trepidations when I put this DVD on. The enclosed book was nothing special. Just some old Sounds magazines (a long deceased English music magazine) interviews. They are interesting enough if you are a die hard Deep Purple fan. The packaging of the DVD and the book is excellent though. I would be very happy if I had received Reflections it as a Christmas or birthday present. For £ 1, it is a bargain.

The DVD is a mishmash and a documentary with interviews with Deep Purple Mark I, Mark II and Mark III members. The DVD spend a lot of time on the sacking of the two Mark I members. Too much time, in my view. The orchestra thing and In Rock is covered well. Interviews interludes with small live clips which just serves to renew my interest in their albums again. Which is a very good thing. The interviews are very insightful and personal, but does not satisfy the die hard Deep Purple fans, I guess. The sound and picture quality is very good too.

Overall, this is a very good package which has renewed my interest in Deep Purple again. The Deep Purple live clips is stirring to say at least. It is also a very good Deep Purple DVD biography and an absolute excellent intro to this band for those who does not know them. Is this an excellent addition to a prog rock collection ? Probably not. But if you can find it for one pound or a couple of dollars/euros, don't hesitate to buy it.
