2 stars 'Selections From Ghost Reveries' - Opeth (Promo)

Sent out to radio stations as a promotion for their masterpiece 'Ghost Reveries,' it may strike some as odd for a death metal band to be interacting with public media. In any case however, this is a fairly functional compilation to give prospective listeners a taste of what the album is all about. While I think it might have been more fruitful to have the title track (also known as 'Harlequin Forest') to be featured on this promotion, the two songs chosen are both very good. 'Ghost Of Perdition' however is nearly cut in half by a radio edit, making it a fair bit less enjoyable than it might have been, had the length been kept intact. Another strange thing about this compilation is the fact that 'The Grand Conjuration' is featured twice on here, once as the full version and once as another radio edit.

This isn't really anything for anyone except hardcore fans to own, for the novelty of a collector's item. However, there is some good music here from one of the best progressive death metal albums out there.
