4 stars Meddle is a in-between album. It's right in the middle of the Psych Floyd and the Prog space rock Floyd phases and manages to sound nothing like either of them. Prog Floyd was more about sets of very long songs, not five unrelated songs and then one huge one coming in at the end. And "Echoes" gets a lot of words because it's seriously weird. It's like anachronistically weird. It's like Godspeed as reimagined by Roger Waters and it's seriously good. Admittedly it carries on for a bit longer than I'd like, but really this is as post-rock as pretty much anything got back then.

The other songs are pretty good as well ? the first three being far better than the last two of Side A, which feel slightly uninspired. And I don't know who decided to put footage of football chants on the end of "Fearless" but it was an incredible decision. Bizarre, yes, but incredible as well. This isn't one of the great Pink Floyd canon albums to me, but it shows that they're getting there. But its still phenomenal.
