ANIMALS

Animals is one of my favorite albums from the 70s and one of the great albums of all-time BUT, like Selling England by the Pound, I do not consider this a masterpiece. It is flawed. Even as a teen I could not stand to listen to any of the "Pigs" songs. "Dogs" and "Sheep" --two of the greatest prog songs ever done--I can (and do) listen to all the time but I have no patience or tolerance for the others. I understand and appreciate the genius of the lyrical theme (based on George Orwell's Animal Farm) but the music--the guitar, simple chord play and unappealing melodies (what melodies?) and vocal style and effects just grate against my musical sensibilities (or insensitivities, as the case may be). A great album, highly recommended to all prog curious.
