4 stars Up there with the best. A suberb collection of songs, good musicanship & lyrics, with Dave Cousins holding the whole thing together. Particularly like Down by the Sea with its dramatic swirling riff with orchestral build-up. Also Tears & Pavanne. I really like the harpsichord on this (sadly under-used) and the medieval feel to the whole piece. The Winter & the Summer another expertly crafted song, lovely melody. Some may criticise Part of the Union being standing out as rather commercial amongst the other tracks, but very good nonetheless. The 'uinion rights' messages very topical for the era. Lay Down, another 'hit' is a great upbeat song with good vocals & guitar solo. I give this 4 stars, close to 5. The band were already very well established with good albums under their belts. They went on to make more equally as good albums in the 70s.
