4 stars "Malicorne 2" is the continuation of what started on the MALICORNE 1974 debut album, further elaborated in 1975 and accomplished one year later on their third album "Almanach". Although not as "sophisticated" as "Almanach", "Malicorne 2" is absolutely worth buying. For also this second album is a marvellous example of how old traditional music is conveyed to our modern world while keeping all the harmonies intact. Thus here again medieval instruments are combined with percussion and bass guitar, supported by the alternate or conjoint singing of Gabriel and Marie Yacoub. An absolute highlight thereby is "La fille aux chansons (Marion s'y promene)", and I agree with the previous review that this song alone is a good reason to acquire this album. Vocal harmonies and instrumentals complete the work. As a whole, "Malicorne 2" is like all the early MALICORNE albums very acoustic and folk oriented, so it might not quite match with the expectations of pure prog fans. Yet it is highly recommendable to all those who enjoy innovative musical styles.
