AWOL: A MARILLION SOLO PROJECTS SAMPLER

This album is a small compilation of the solo work of Marillion's bandmembers. It gives a nice insight in their musical minds. There's a wide variety of different musical styles on this album. The first two tracks are from Steve Hogarth (Vocals) solo project "H" and the accompanying live release Live body:Live Spirit. His solo work is a bit of a mixture between spacey stuff and rockier music. PORCUPINE TREE's keyboardist Richard Barbieri is featured on both tracks.

Track 3 & 4 are taken from the Postmankind album that Ian Mosley made together with Ben Castle (who did also play Saxophone on Marillion's marillion.com album). The music is a a darker version of jazz. It's nice to chill-out with. Other musicians that helped out on this album are Marillion's Pete Trewavas and Steve Rothery, Steve Hackett and Mark Edwards.

Track 5 could be a Marillion song from along the Seasons End time, with the only difference that it features female vocals! It has very nice guitar work and the vocals sound very beautiful and fragile. Track 6 is more the folky side of The Wishing Tree, but also very nice!

Track 7 & 8 are from Pete Trewavas side project with Mike Portnoy (DREAM THEATER), Roine Stolt (THE FLOWER KINGS) and Neal Morse (SPOCK'S BEARD, NEAL MORSE). It's a big tribute to 70's symfo bands. The two songs on this sampler are the only shorter songs by Transatlantic as far as I know. It's music you have to hear a couple of times before you really can enjoy it fully!

Overal a nice compilation that gives you an impression of what kind of variety the various members of Marillion think off besides the stuff they make with Marillion.
