3 stars Hmmmmm.........

I bought this, their debut album back in 1993 in the belief it was another brutal death metal album from the Black Mark stable. I got a bit of a shock, you can safely assume, when I listen to this album. Death metal, it ain't.

Tad Morose is one of these bands which does progressive heavy metal. Or progressive metal as it is called. I am not a great follower of this band, but they have indicated in the interview that this is one of their most progressive albums before they went down the more simplistic heavy metal road. Less twists and turns, in other words. This album does have it's twists and turns, though. Plenty of them, to be more precise.

The music here is progressive metal, no less and no more. The melodies are pretty good with plenty of good vocals and guitar harmonies, supported by some synths now and then. The vocals are excellent and so is the rest of the musicians.

I am not a big fan of progressive metal. But this album has some good melodies and hooks, performed by a very good band. This album does need some time to sink in though. Instant bubble gum heavy metal, this album is not. But when it sinks in, it is an enjoyable album. Prog metal fans should check this one out.
