Tad Morose biography
TAD MOROSE was originally formed in 1991 by Christer "Krunt" Andersson, Per-Ola "Rossi" Olsson and Dan-Erik "Danne" Eriksson. Shortly thereafter Anders "Wispen" Westlund joined. During the summer of 1992, they played various gigs in their hometown of Bollnäs, Sweden. Wispen left in late 1992, and TAD MOROSE was left without a singer, the music then took off in a different direction.

In March 1993, they entered the Wave Station Studio in Ljusne, Sweden and recorded their first and only demo tape. During those recording-sessions Danne´s friend Kristian "Krille" Andrén visited the studio, and began experimenting with lyrics and vocals. The result was so fantastic that they recorded it. Kristian was added to the line-up. Record labels, however, seemed unresponsive until mid August 1993 when Börje Forsberg, the president of Black Mark Production, heard the tape and immediately signed them.

Around the same time, keyboard player Fredrik "Frippe" Eriksson joined the band and in mid September. The debut album "Leaving The Past Behind" was recorded. Like the demo, it was recorded by mastermind Uffe Pettersson and produced by TAD MOROSE. Leif Edling of Candlemass had been sent a copy of the demo which Borivoj Krgin, of the US magazine Metal Maniacs, promptly "stole" and subsequently reviewed. Thus, bundles of overseas fan mail began pouring in.

"Leaving The Past Behind" was released on the first of November 1993 in Europe and shortly thereafter in Australia and Japan where it sold 3000 copies in a little less than a week! In Australia it reached no.13 in the Metal Labyrinth Top 20. In Germany, Rock Hard voted it Record of the Month in their November issue: "Very powerful, compact and melodic songs with a touch of progressive metal. An incredible mixture Of METALLICA and DREAM THEATER". - Frank Albrecht of Rock Hard.

In mid summer 1994, just two weeks before TAD MOROSE was scheduled to record the second album, Danne quit the band due to personal problems and musical differences. The recordings were postponed until a suitable, replacement could be found. Fortunately, the band recruited Peter Morén, a true soul mate from a strange band called "Bedtime Circus".

So, in mid October they once again entered the Wave Station Studio to record Sender Of Thoughts. Shortly thereafter Rossi was replaced by bassist Anders "Modden" Modd, another member of the now defunct band "Bedtime Circus" leaving Christer as the only founding member. With this ...

Tad Morose Progressive Metal

Review by ArtuomNechuev

2 stars Really don't like to be hard on musicians, because every work and effort deserve certain amount of respect. So I won't. However, it's worth emphasizing - there's nothing progressive on this record, only metal. Music is not bad at all! It extremely reminds me of that classic 80s heavy metal. Music sounds like that and even have similar spirit a bit. It can be placed somewhere between Black Sabbath, Dio, Iron Maiden and a bit of Crimson Glory. Surely it doesn't possesses the same emotion, punch, level of intricacy and songwriting. Musicians don't demonstrate any excepcional skills, abilities or approach. To tell the truth songs are average and mediocre. There's nothing to cling to: melodies, riffs and solos are forgettable. The only song, that contains slight hints of prog is "The Dead and His Son." Therefore, although this record falls in the category of classic heavy/power metal, it's absolutely average, and just follows the steps of classic heavy metal bands. I really like such type of music - all components. However, in this case when I listen to this album, it seems, that I've heard it all before. Having been labelled as heavy metal, it would have fairly deserved 3 stars. Alas, only 2 here.

3 stars Hmmmmm.........

I bought this, their debut album back in 1993 in the belief it was another brutal death metal album from the Black Mark stable. I got a bit of a shock, you can safely assume, when I listen to this album. Death metal, it ain't.

Tad Morose is one of these bands which does progressive heavy metal. Or progressive metal as it is called. I am not a great follower of this band, but they have indicated in the interview that this is one of their most progressive albums before they went down the more simplistic heavy metal road. Less twists and turns, in other words. This album does have it's twists and turns, though. Plenty of them, to be more precise.

The music here is progressive metal, no less and no more. The melodies are pretty good with plenty of good vocals and guitar harmonies, supported by some synths now and then. The vocals are excellent and so is the rest of the musicians.

I am not a big fan of progressive metal. But this album has some good melodies and hooks, performed by a very good band. This album does need some time to sink in though. Instant bubble gum heavy metal, this album is not. But when it sinks in, it is an enjoyable album. Prog metal fans should check this one out.

1 stars One of my friends bought this album when it came out, because he read a review that this sounded exactly like Dream Theater ( LOL can´t stop laughing). Tad Morose does play prog metal in the vein of Dream Theater, but they are only a really bad imitation of this genre. My friend has had "Sender of Thoughts ever since, and it is one of those albums together with "The Final Countdown" by Europe that we take out when we get drunk, because they are just so funny and cheesy.

This is basicly very bad hard rock mixed with prog metal with lots of keyboards. A genre I despise. This is not easily diggestable. Well I can´t really give this one anything else but 1 star as it is really that bad ( oh yeah the Rainbow cover sucks a.. too), but the album is really funny played under the right circumstances. Oh I forgot to mention that the production is really bad and flat, nothing to save a hopeless album.

This is the only album I have ever heard with Tad Morose and I´m sure I will never hear another, but who knows maybe some of their later works are better ?

3 stars This is more power than Sender of thoughts because the guitar is in front more than keys, but has good parts. From this one they change a little bit they'r style, from progressive to a more power side. After all this one combine that 2 styles very eficient. I think the first track along with A mended rhyme and Time of no sun are the best from here. What can i add? If you are in bands like Avalon, Royal Hunt or even Black Sabbath try it, sometimes they have a doomy feeling.

4 stars This is my first introduction to the band. Whay a band, great????? This album is great stuff. In the Black Sabbath vein, but with more keyboards. Very dark but very powerful. A strong album, in every way, i'm amased that this band doesn't have so many reviews, because is good music. I like the drummer, who is very sure of his instrument. The cover of Rainbow is good. On the sleeve of the album the musicians tanks to one of the greatest bands ever ; Black Sabbath. In the end i like to tanks to this musicians, they do a very good job. Keep doing good and interesting albums.
