5 stars Some of Floyd's most brilliant music combined with Water's brutal take on societal (im)balance and politics, Animals is a behemoth of Prog Rock, and Rock in general. The 2-part itty-bitty "Pigs on the Wing" (6/10) provides musically interesting bookends to package the 3 giants: - Dogs 17:05: with an unusual but melodic guitar tone, weaving through various moods and a psychedelic interlude to a screaming crescendo at the end (8/10) - Pigs 11:26: possibly my favourite Floyd song overall - beautiful guitar on top of richly layered atmostpheric synths and mesmerising groovy syncopated bass solos (played by Gilmour, I believe) with solo parts from Gilmours's talk box carrying you away into a different reality. Waters' biting lyics about the various "pigs", half-sung half-snarled are a perfect match to the mood of the song. I can never listen to it just once...(20/10!) - Sheep 10:20: slows things down after the frantic end or Pigs and then launches into a scathing rave only to be interrupted for the weird and controversial version of the Lord's prayer and kicks back in until the eponymous sheep rise up and kill the dogs at the end of the song...(10/10) I'd give it 5 stars just for Pigs but there a whole 27 extra minutes of wonderful bliss across Dogs and Sheep....
