4 stars I've been searching "new music" recently, and i tried this time to dig a little deeper in prog-metal, i started with some heavy stuff like OPETH, and AGHORA, then i wanted to hear something a lot more "DREAM THEATER-oriented", odd times, fast solos, keyboards etc... but suddenly i realize of the existence of PAIN OF SALVATION as a driving force of the genre. Now, This record is one of the greatest debuts ever, with very cohesive songs and great preformance, the band sound as a unity and not as a chops-punch players, intelligent, clever and focused, every song seems to be crafted more than composed, every single detail has been taken cared of... reminds me sometimes at certain points some VAI, or ZAPPA.

But actually, this is a very precise expression of a band that tries to show how an overrated genre with a lot of overrated bands can be improved, from any point of view. Honestly i was doubtful of the potential of this band, i heard once BEYOND THE PALE in here, and noticed certain "disscontinuity" in the song, so i started to avoid the song, but then i heard (!) foreword, and got this cd, and it showed me that the band creates albums not songs, feelings, emotions, textures, ideas not blasting solos, and i fell into that magic.

Reviweing a record like this is quite a hard task, beacuse you really got to hear the whole album before any statement is written. Then... is great to have a tematic record with stories involved, that drives you into a unique world, and as a book, this record has up and downs, passages into different kind of emotions, to have a very large array of images to understand what the hell is happening in their heads. I cannot recomend any particular song, beacuse i would be orienting you to focus something and not in the whole, just try to find time to hear it.

Honestly, i agree that this is a very underrated band, and they must have a lot more exposure, beacuse in Mexico there is little notice from them , trying to find a record is a quest.

So, i recomend this record to anyone trying to find something new and original with a lot of essence in their way in a very tormented and shallow music bussines.
