MOONTAN

Golden Earring's Moontain is the peak of Golden Earring's carriere by delivering the hit-single Radar Love. The music fits well into the art-rock scene like David Bowie. In fact the Golden Earring was the most famous band around this time coming out of the Netherlands.

The quility of the songs on this records differs a lot. The first song "Candy's going Bad" is a quiet good art-rock song followed by the even better "Are you recieving me". The guitarbased rock songs combined with some great wind-sections in the refrain works out really great. The jamming contains silent experimental guitarpieces and windsections accompanied with great drumming from one of the best Dutch drummers. The jamming slowly becomes louder end in the outburst the refrain is repeated.

Suzy Lunacy centainly is the weakest track on the record. This bluesrock song lasts too long and becomes a bit irritating. I guess the lyrics means to be funny, but this doesn´t work out that good.

Radar Love is so well-known a description ain't needed. Just like Vince Taylor is a hardrock'n'roll song of average quality. The ending song Vanilla Queen is a the most progressive piece of the record. This song uses synthesizer sounds and has some emotional quality. This song also uses wind-sections to lift up the refrain. The song ends in some endless solo's which are fine, but not brilliant.

Because of the inconsistent quality of the songs I'll give this record 3,5 stars. This may be the best record of the GE, so if you will add something of this band to your collection this will be a good start.
