Well, this is history of music becoming present...
No one could and ever will replace Freddy Mercury. But for all the people who didn't
have the chance to see Queen live, this must have been quite an event! I saw Queen
with Freddy and didn't see them with Paul Rogers. At first, when I heard the news, I
thought to myself: why? Do we need this? Yes we do!!!
History, as I said...Songs from the seventies, the eighties, very important songs which
deserve to be played and heard even today. And no one better than Paul Rodgers, who
made history by himself, could have done this. So no one's trying to replace Freddy, but
to celebrate him, his talent, his legacy. Musically, this live album is solid as a...rock!
Powerfull sound, magic ambience provided by the audience, fantastic vocal
performance giving these songs a new dimension. Brian May and his guitar at best,
Roger Taylor thundering and singing even better than ever. Only Deacon is missing,
and I really wonder why, but the other musicians played their parts respectfully,
preserving the original feel of the songs. Personally, I prefer the rock ones, as I find
Paul Rodgers' version really ground-breaking: Tie your mother down, Hammer to fall, A
kind of magic, I want it all. Emotionally, Show must go on: I can't even figure out
Freddy doing better....must have been quite an event!
