4 stars Yes this is a David Gilmour project not Pink Floyd. This is the best solo album by ANY PF member including Waters and he has distanced his music from Pink Floyd enough for it to be able to stand up on its own legs. Anyone expecting to hear Pink Floyd should be hesitant about purchasing this album, but anyone who loves David Gilmour and would relish at the idea of hearing an entire album of his solos should not hesitate to check this one out. Gilmour himself pointed out that this album is very "floydy" which is what I first thought when I heard track one, which is the exception in this album. I'm not sure that he tried purposefully to sound floydy, but this album shows the influence he had on Pink Floyd and the influence Pink Floyd had on him. The first track on an island is absolutely superb and would fit properly into a PF album such as Meddle in quality and form. It also includes the distinctive Crosby and Nash performing backup which is a highlight of the album. Robert Wyatt also is in the mix performing a cornet solo, and Gilmour breaks out the sax himself. If Gilmour was your favorite member of Pink Floyd and if you were turned off by the Final Cut, Amused to Death, Momentary Lapse, and Division Bell, you should check this album out. Just don't expect any rockin out, this album came out on Gilmour's 60th and reflects this stage of his life perfectly. For those more interested in purchasing the album, check it out on amazon.com which features an exclusive look at the making of the album with interviews of the man himself.
