4 stars After experimental 'Concerto' , Deep Purple turned to their rock roots and within six months of intense work they released 'Deep Purple in Rock', an album which established them as one of the most progressive British hard rock bands of that time. I remember late summer of 1970 when we were listening to Kid Jensen Show on Radio Luxembourg, a man and a broadcast that had an pioneering and pivotal role in promoting progressive rock at the turn of decades.Even though broadcast was starting at 1 am our taperecorders were ready to catch impressive tune of 'Child In Time'. When few months later my friend gave me LP I discovered that beside 'Child In Time' there were also some other good tracks which have occupied my attention like 'Speed King', 'Flight Of The Rat', 'Hard Lovin' Man'. So, this Purple move to rock (and roll) prooved to be quite correct, since the album was commercially highly successful and also well received by critic. This was, in my opinion , the best Purple line-up and none of the subsequent albums matched the quality of this one.
