Compared to their previous albums, Animals is less ambient and has a more hard edged, direct approach. This works to expand their sound, and all the better for it. As ever Gilmour's guitar work impresses, and Wright's trademark keyboard parts, althought subtle, form an integral part of the music. Also lyrically expanded to a social commentary comparing people to animals - an original concept for an album at the time.
