3 stars Probably the biggest album that Gabriel did relating to sales and success.

"Red Rain" - I enjoy how Stewart Copeland (ex Police Drummer) uses the Hi-Hat to simulate rain falling on this track.

"Sledgehammer" - I had a friend who loved this track and played it day and night - as a result I kind of got very tired of it. I don't like the track partly because I don't like pop music and partly due to my friend.

"Don't Give Up" - I love this Gabriel, Kate Bush duet of a track. Very very emotive.

"That Voice Again" - Nice enough track - nothing special though.

"In your Eyes" - Human love song or a song between a person and God. I really like this track.

"Mercy Street" - Based on a book of poetry (Mercy Street) by Anne Sexton, a mental patient who succeeded in killing herself on her 5th attempt. This is the giant track of the album. It is beautiful .

"Big Time" - One of the more "poppy" upbeat tracks on the album. I can't say that I like it very much.

"We Do What We're Told" - Based on the Milgram experiments when it was proven that people will invariably do what they're told to do even if it means inflicting severe pain and even death on another person. Very short track unfortunately.

"This is the Picture" - The beat and bass remind me a great deal of Brian Ferry's music. Not a bad album closer.

To me "Mercy Street" is easily amongst the best tracks that Peter Gabriel had done thus far in his solo career up to this point. I also enjoy "Don't Give Up" and "In Your Eyes" a great deal. There are two tracks that I just don't like being "Sledgehammer" and "Big Time". The rest is good in parts. I can't go more than three stars for this as an album and that is probably due to the fact that a lot of this is heading very much in the Commercial Pop direction. Three stars it is although I'm well aware of how liked this album is.
