4 stars This album is different.

Different from what you expect from Hancock-Shorter collaboration, or different from what you listened on their albums. First of all, there are just grand piano and tenor sax, no synthesizers, no sound effects, no rhythm section at all!

Hancock and Shorter play free form music which is mostly a mix of European classic tradition and free jazz form. Improvisation and minimalism. Slow, sometimes dreamy, with some emotional explosions and rare jazzy intrudes. A bit dreamy and philosophical. Two great Masters at their mature collaboration.

If you're know Hancock only by his "Rockit" hit, or Headhunters, you possibly will be shocked. This album is more similar to his work with Miles Davis or to some minimalistic John Cale early albums.

Deep and so-rare-now clever music, but for sure not for everyone.
