2 stars Saga, or rather their various record labels, has released a lot of so-called "best off" compilation albums since I stopped following them.

Works falls into this "best off" category and it covers most of their career. I am not familiar with their last ten albums. Some of the songs on Works does not invite me to be familiar with them either. This is turkey stuff and truly dreadful songs. The best songs here are great. Songs like On The Loose for example. The difference in quality between the great songs here and the worst ones are huge. Unfortunate, the songs are rather jumbled together on these 2 CDs, which makes me use the fast forward button on a too frequent basis.

But there are - must be !! - far better Saga compilation albums out there because the dreadful tracks are far outnumbering the great tracks on this album. Maybe it is a good idea to give this compilation a rather wide berth then.

2 stars
