3 stars This début effort from Norwegian outfit Big Robot comes across as one reaching out to a very select audience indeed.

Synths and electronics are dominating throughout, and if any other instruments are used they are well disguised. In other word this sounds like a purified electronic venture, albeit with frequent use of what appears to be old school instruments. There are many references to the first thwurps and bleeps explored some decades ago by the electronic pioneers.

What will scare away many potential fans is the approach here though. Forget melodies, forget harmonies, forget regular dissonances and disharmonies as well. Sound collages and audio constructions with machine-like sounds, static noise and a certain distinct space influenced sound is what offered up here.

If you've heard the sound of quasars and stars you should feel right at home with this album though, and those who enjoy the most experimental side of acts like Tangerine Dream should appreciate this one as well. And as Conrad Schnitzler is featured on the CD, fans of his might want to give this one a check as well.
