5 stars "Envision" is the newest work by Bulgarian band smallman, who boast an impressive style of folk post-metal. Folky guitars open, and then they throw down some excellent metal from there. The fact that it is often supported by not just more standard winds but even bagpipes is just the icing on this dethcake. Flutes appear on "Parvom Parvom", and then immediately after on "New Day" we are treated to the Gaida, Southeast Europe's favourite bagpipe. The post-metal smallman plays is reckoned to be like a heavier take on Tool, only now after Maynard James Keenan took the wrong turn on a Greek highway and ended up hanging out with some Greek and Bulgarian shepherds. Very good metal with a perfect accompaniment, highly recommended.
