Smallman biography
SMALLMAN is a 4-piece post/experimental metal band formed in 2001 in Asenovgrad, Bulgaria. Cvetan HADZHIYSKI (vocals, bagpipes), Ivan TODOROV (guitars) and Stefan PENEV (bass) have been together since 2001 while Andon TRAPKOV (drums) joined the band in 2005. In 2006 they released their self-titled debut and in 2010 came their second album, "Labyrinth of Present". The sound of the band is built upon heavy bass lines and resembles the style of TOOL, while the use of bagpipes and percussion gives a distinct ethnic feeling.

Smallman Experimental/Post Metal

Review by LearsFool

5 stars "Envision" is the newest work by Bulgarian band smallman, who boast an impressive style of folk post-metal. Folky guitars open, and then they throw down some excellent metal from there. The fact that it is often supported by not just more standard winds but even bagpipes is just the icing on this dethcake. Flutes appear on "Parvom Parvom", and then immediately after on "New Day" we are treated to the Gaida, Southeast Europe's favourite bagpipe. The post-metal smallman plays is reckoned to be like a heavier take on Tool, only now after Maynard James Keenan took the wrong turn on a Greek highway and ended up hanging out with some Greek and Bulgarian shepherds. Very good metal with a perfect accompaniment, highly recommended.
Thanks to CCVP for the artist addition. and to Rune2000 for the last updates
