4 stars If you want a Vangelis compilation including his most productive times with RCA(1975-1978) and Polydor (1979-1986) as well as the best Jon and Vangelis songs ...then this is your 'baby'.Vangelis took an active role in both the selection of tracks and cleverly bridges the peices togther similar to the Pink Floyd compilation Echoes. This is a very commendable way to approach a compilation album in my view.Recommended if you don't want to collect all the Vangelis CD's OR as a sampler OR for even something to play in the car on a longish journey.

3 stars Yes one has to endure yet another Vangelis compilation...his most dastardly of deeds! yet this one has a slightly different edge due to marketing reshifting as to where the captive audience is......

Portraits is a great piece for compilations but the most constructive elements are the Jon and Vangelis songs like ' I Hear You Now', ' I'll Find My Way Home' and ' Sate Of Independance' Good stuff at best.If you like the Jon and Vangelis era this may well be a worthy addition to that phase.

3 stars I bought this compilation yesterday. Not bad at all if you consider that this is a mix between Vangelis & Jon & Vangelis songs. But in my opinion "Portraits" is not good as Vangelis compilation: most good songs are not in this compilation... Not only fron Vangelis solo album. I think that in this type of compilation also songs from Aphrodite's Child are good, due to compilation bese idea (and not only "Rain And Tears"!). The final result is, in every case, good and I think that this compilation is good to listen to in a car during a good journey!
