4 stars The Shutov assembly is one of Eno's more accessible ambient works. Listeners who find the near static hour long meditations on Thursday Afternoon and Neroli heavy going will find this album a lot more palatable - there are 10 pieces, mostly fairly short, which means that there are changes in mood and texture every few minutes. The best point of comparison is On Land, although on this album there are no other musicians adding extra texture to Eno's mostly electonic soundscapes. It's the musical equivalent of looking at a series of watercolour landscapes - gently evocative and soothing. Excellent late night background music.

1 stars Having owned a pile of syntesizers and sequences, I know just how easy it is to make "music" out of random light sounds. I'm just not impressed with Eno's many releases of just that.

This one is ten tracks, or almost an hours worth of complete boredom. I suppose if you are nearly comatose, and need some background sounds for your hospital room to keep from going completely insane, this might be the ablbum for you. Or perhaps, if you are staging your home for sale, and do not want to offend the potential buyers who might not like your background music, this is so unobtrusive, it might do.

But otherwise, there's nothing to listen to here.
